CLARK LAKE, MI - Crabs took over the Beach Bar in Clark Lake on Sunday for the beginning of the Great American Crab Races.

The 28th annual event began with kid racing bracket in the afternoon and adult races following in the evening. The adult racing bracket will continue until Tuesday.

Racing begins with buying a $10 ticket, then picking out and naming a crab.

Once races are ready to start, crabs are placed in the center of the table, surrounded by a painted ring around the outside. The first crab to reach the outside of the ring is the winner.

The winning racers in the kids bracket pick between prizes of $200, $150, $100 and a McDonald’s bike with the Dr. Pepper logo on it. Adult winners will receive $600 for first place, $350 for second place and $200 for third place.

Proceeds from the races benefit Napoleon Athletic Boosters, Napoleon Lions Club, Tom Collins Spirit Memorial Trail and the Columbia Robotics Team.
