In the Bottino lab, the focus is how to meet the needs of dental clinics by helping patients in new, unique ways.

Dr. Marco Bottino is an internationally recognized leader in the field of regenerative medicine and currently serves as the Robert W. Browne Endowed Professor of Dentistry in the Department of Cariology, Restorative Sciences, and Endodontics (CRSE) and CRSE’s Director of Research and Director of the Postgraduate Program in Regenerative Dentistry.

The focus of the Bottino laboratory is to identify technologies that can help connect stem cell biology and clinical knowledge to enhance the potential of finding new therapeutics to reestablish oral health.

By using biofabrication and 3D printing, the lab can generate three dimensional tissues or materials that can be used to help the body to regenerate missing tissues. A patient’s own data is gathered from imaging tools to exactly understand what pieces of the bone are missing, and with that 3D printing and bioprinting is used to create the missing piece.
